Tutorial Request Form (TRF)
Students use their Focused Notes to complete a TRF to help answer a question, refine a process, or expand their understanding of a topic. They participate in collaborative tutorials twice a week. |

Students write questions in focused notes, TRF notebooks, documents, and readings to connect their thinking to the Essential Question (EQ) for the lesson. This helps them prepare for discussions, essays, projects, and tests.

Students participate in structured activities that are designed to build community, increase communication and teamwork in the AVID class.

Planner
Students maintain a planner/calendar where they record classwork and homework for each class and record important dates for projects and tests.
They must devise a method to neatly mark completed tasks.

Binder
Students keep all materials organized in their 3-Ring Binder; there should be no loose papers in the binder or in their backpack. All handouts, materials, and notes must be filed behind the appropriate tab in their binder.
Their pencil pouch should be at the front of the binder and should be filled with pens, pencils, highlighters, ruler, and post it notes.

Grade check, goal setting, and reflection
Every three weeks AVID students:
- obtain signatures and feedback from teachers regarding their behavior and progress.
- write three specific actions they will take to improve their grades/behavior in school.
- write two-three sentence reflections about how they feel about their grades, achievements and disappointments so far this year.
- calculate their GPA and write SMART goals for their GPA, academics, and personal life.

Article of the Week
Students close read and analyze a newsworthy article each week. Critically reading the articles help students connect to the world, look at issues from opposing viewpoints, and discuss controversial topics in an academic setting.
